Praegu kasutatakse PVA-d lisaks vin\u00fc\u00fclooni toorainele laialdaselt tekstiili liimimisel, pinnakatetes, liimides, emulgaatorites, kiledes ja muudes t\u00f6\u00f6stusvaldkondades. PVA molekul sisaldab siiski suurel hulgal h\u00fcdroks\u00fc\u00fclr\u00fchmi, mille tulemuseks on PVA halb veekindlus ja stabiilsus, mis m\u00f5jutab selle kasutamist. Keemiliste kiudude t\u00f6\u00f6stuses on PVA-l puudusi, nagu nahastumine, vahutamine ja ebapiisav haardumine kiudude k\u00fclge. Seet\u00f5ttu kasutatakse selle veekindluse parandamiseks tavaliselt keemilisi modifitseerimismeetodeid.
